PRESS RELEASE
Returning to The RiverFront, the fourth annual One Community Cultural Festival will once again bring art, music and dancing to the heart of downtown Omaha for a free weekend-long event.
Founded by the Nebraska Chinese Association, the One Community Cultural Festival proudly stands as the city’s first and largest multi-cultural festival, celebrating and highlighting Omaha’s rich and robust diversity. The RiverFront program partners from both the Nebraska Chinese Association and Omaha Symphony will provide two days of live entertainment and enriching experiences in the park.
Beginning on Friday, September 13, the celebration will start with a fun-filled night of performances, featuring Sounds of the City from the Omaha Symphony. From 7:30 until about 9 PM, this free outdoor concert at the Gene Leahy Mall Performance Pavilion will include musicians and dancers from Culxr House, Kokyo Taiko, Nebraska Chinese Association, North Omaha Music & Arts (NOMA) and the Heartland Youth Ballet.
Along with traditional Chinese folk songs and music from some favorite movie scores, Sounds of the City will also feature the premiere of Anthony Barfield’s hip-hop infused Symphony 808, creating an unforgettable showcase in the heart of Gene Leahy Mall.
Then, on Saturday, September 14, the One Community Cultural Festival returns to the Gene Leahy Mall Performance Pavilion for a day of culturally significant activations. The RiverFront and Nebraska Chinese Association are collaborating to facilitate a day filled with diverse programming and visually stunning presentations. A number of vendors and local organizations will also be available to inspire, educate and enlighten visitors with information about resources available within the community.
In addition to family friendly activities and an impressive assortment of food and merchant displays surrounding the Downtown Green event lawn, attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy singing, dancing and various forms of interpretive art on the Performance Pavilion stage, to include salsa, belly dance, flamenco, lion and dragon dance, martial arts demonstrations and so much more. The One Community Cultural Festival is a free event to attend. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome for this all-day experience.
